Call me old school, but I still believe there’s something invaluable about meeting face-to-face. Although, as they say, “There’s more than one way to skin a cat 🐈⬛” (odd phrase, isn’t it?), recruitment is no different.
How Recruitment Has Evolved
Recruitment has moved from flipping through phone books to scrolling through LinkedIn, and from office suits to working in home-office comfort. Despite these changes, recruitment’s heart remains unchanged: it’s all about people.
Why Job Boards Aren’t Enough
Job boards let you set filters for location, salary, and title, offering polished listings that look perfect on paper. But in the end, meeting people at the business reveals whether a role truly fits.
The Face-to-Face Advantage
When I started in recruitment, every candidate would meet with me for an hour to discuss their skills, role, and career goals. This face-to-face approach produced great results for everyone: clients, candidates, and myself. Nowadays, however, competitors often rely on quick 5-minute calls. Many candidates I talk to can often not remember their recruiter’s name or the companies mentioned.
The Risks of Quick Calls
I get it—life is busy, and shorter calls are easier to fit in. But recently, one of our candidates had a brief call with another recruiter, leaving out critical information. This led to a lengthy interview process, only to find mismatched timelines with the employer.
Why Face-to-Face Saves Time
Spending an initial 45 minutes with a specialist recruiter can save time down the road, ensuring clarity for everyone involved. While I’m open to starting with a phone call to adapt to modern needs, I’ll always advocate for a face-to-face meeting when possible. Ultimately, personal connection is what makes the difference.
