From AI to Authentic: Polishing AI Written CVs and LinkedIn Posts
Generative AI like ChatGPT can be a lifesaver for those who are open to opportunities. But if you’re creating LinkedIn posts or sending LinkedIn messages, you don’t want your content, application, or CV to scream “AI-generated.”
Here’s how polishing AI written LinkedIn posts, messages and CVs can make your writing look authentic and professional.
- Fix the Formatting
❌ Don’t: Copy AI text directly into your LinkedIn post, message, CV or job application. This drags hidden formatting including grey boxes, odd fonts and inconsistent spacing, which signals copy and paste.
✅ Do: Paste into a plain-text editor first, then format it yourself, or paste without formatting using CTRL+SHIFT+V. Use a clean, consistent font and normal spacing for CVs and applications. Preview LinkedIn posts on mobile and keep messages neatly broken up.
2. Cut the Buzzwords
❌ Don’t: Fill your post, message, CV or application with vague AI adjectives like dynamic, exciting, innovative, impactful.
✅ Do: Replace them with specifics. For CVs, show results (“reduced reporting time by 20%”). For posts or messages, explain what you actually did or what you are actually asking for. This is central to polishing AI-written LinkedIn posts effectively and CVs.
3. Vary Your Sentence Rhythm
❌ Don’t: Leave AI’s uniform, perfectly balanced sentences in place, it reads robotic in posts, messages CVs and cover letters.
✅ Do: Mix short and long sentences. Use bullet points for achievements. In posts and messages, combine punchy statements with conversational ones. Reading aloud helps you catch the flow.
- Ditch the Over Engineered Transitions
❌ Don’t: Keep every “moreover,” “further more” and “additionally” that the AI added. This is especially noticeable in LinkedIn posts and messages, where people usually write more casually.
✅ Do: Use natural connectors sparingly. Write as if you are talking to someone, especially in messages. Ask ChatGPT to match your tone. - Break the Template Intros
❌ Don’t: Start with generic openings like: “I am a highly motivated professional seeking a challenging opportunity…” or “Excited to announce…”
✅ Do: For LinkedIn posts, open with a personal insight or question. For LinkedIn messages, reference something specific about who you are messaging as a talking point. Lead with a hook. For CVs or applications, share a headline achievement or your key specialisation. - Watch Your Punctuation
❌ Don’t: Leave in en-dashes or em-dashes (– / —) and overly polished quotation marks if you don’t normally use them. These are subtle AI giveaways.
✅ Do: Stick to simple punctuation or rewrite sentences. Keep it natural to your style.
- Add the Human Touch
❌ Don’t: Send out content that could belong to anyone in your field.
✅ Do: In posts, add your opinion or local context. In messages, mention something uniquely you or something specific about the person you’re messaging to catch their interest. Layer in your own details: industries you have worked in, software you have mastered, results you have achieved or the value you can add. This is the fastest way of polishing AI-written CVs and LinkedIn posts into something authentic.
- Always Edit by Hand
❌ Don’t: Treat the AI draft as finished. Recruiters can tell.
✅ Do: Use it as scaffolding. Reorder, cut, rewrite and add. Ask a friend or mentor to read it. Even a quick personal edit makes a huge difference.
AI can save you hours, but authenticity gets you connections and in the door. Whether it is a LinkedIn post, a direct message, your CV or a job application – clean formatting, specific language, varied structure and your own perspective will make your content stand out and will stop it looking like it came straight from an AI tool.
